About Economics of Happiness: Using the experiences of the recent spread of western culture into the traditional society of Ladakh in the high Himalayas, this beautifully produced and moving film offers insights into why the western economic model and globalisation have created some of the biggest problems facing the world today: climate chaos, financial instability, resource depletion and degradation of the human spirit. Venue: Robin Hood Pub, Sandy Lane, Orrell. Download Flyer
About The Power of Community: This film documents how the people of Cuba, a highly mechanized and industrialised society, overcame the loss of most of their oil supply after the collapse of the USSR – an artificial Peak Oil crisis 30+ years before the rest of the world faces the same crisis due to dwindling oil reserves and finite resources.
This fascinating and uplifting film offers hope and shows that, by pulling together and using creative strategies, communities cannot only survive and thrive in an oil depleted future but create a future that is richer and more fulfilling than our current oil-fuelled reality.
